| The Saturation and Over Accessibility of Production |
|
It was recently stated within the music industry that since the emergence of the internet, music has become an overly saturated art/medium. The accessibility of the medium might foster an air of under appreciation, thus promoting a shortened life span of attention due to the myriad of options. It was also argued that for any music-phile, this was the greatest buffet ever. If so for music, then how much more for film and television production? The fall of Blockbuster is proof that a surplus charge exceeding $5 for any feature film has now become simply unacceptable. More so, does it not seem that you could land your own series and still be the walking unrecognizable- outside of Canada, no less. Those who recall the pre-web days of clicking through 13 channels would also recall the notoriety that accompanied an appearance in a national commercial. So what is the conclusion? Saturation? Quite possibly. But cut to the point: more availability = more production = more casting. Easy math. Even more so if your end motive is artistic integrity and performance over recognizability.
